Got it? Use It

Got spring fever? That’s a good thing. Have you ever wondered why they call it spring fever? Think about it. Those are two opposing concepts. Spring is about renewal and revival. You want that in your life for sure. A fever is something you dread. It’s a sign that your system is under attack and your body is in fight mode. Who wants a struggle?

Isn’t that where you are right now mentally? Circumstances are fighting against you. Things are tough but you’re not feeling tough enough anymore. You’re tired. You’re waiting for your life to get better and maybe even something new to happen.

You’re restless. It’s been a long year of hoping for things to turn around, the odds to be in your favor for a change, the tide to turn. When is it going to happen?

Spring is a sure thing. It’s promised.

Spring is a shift. When spring comes it means you get to shed all those heavy layers you’ve needed to protect you from the elements. Lighten your load. Clear out the clutter and start over. You know how to do that with the hats and gloves and boots, and scarves. You go to the store and buy organizers for all the stuff in the closets. But what about the clutter in your head? Aren’t you ready to put that away?

Spring is coming. It’s an assured action of nature. The tiny new green leaves will appear, the sky will be bluer and the days warmer. The surprise of daffodils will happen with no effort on your part.

You won’t be asked to perform or provide or produce or persevere or pivot. You get to receive.

You know without a doubt spring is coming. What if you had that same confidence that your emotional landscape will begin to emerge in a renewed way?

What if you not only allowed yourself to believe but you expected the stress you’re under will ease and your ability to cope and rebound will increase and the depression will give way to hope?

Therein lies your answer. Just as you get ready for the new season you can prepare your head and heart for a renewal. Take intentional measures to clear the clutter of old thinking. Shed the layers of doubt, discouragement and disappointment that are too heavy for a new climate. Better is coming. Count on it. It’s not a matter of blind faith. It’s about seeing clearly that you can use this restlessness to move you forward.
